A new distributed computing project allows people around the world to participate in cutting-edge cosmology research by sharing their unused computing cycles.

 

Designed by an astronomy professor, Cosmology@Home is similar to SETI@Home, 
the popular software program that searches radio telescope data for evidence of extraterrestrial transmissions.

Without a Trace...

Someone Knows the Truth

All of us are familiar with the fact that people go missing every day, all over the world. But it is a little more unusual when groups of people go missing. 


I am not talking about soldiers who may be in an area where there is fighting, the cause of their disappearances is far to obvious, except for the case cited below. I am talking about people that just vanish without a trace.

During WWII, German aircraft designers put forth many aircraft project ideas, which ranged from the practical to the bizarre. Some of these ideas were ahead of their time and reached a more advanced design stage, and even affect aircraft today.

MS Estonia

A Survivor's Story

On a cold night in September 1994 the "Estonia" a 20.300 ton passenger vessel left the port of Tallinn enroute for Stockholm. It was a stormy night. On board were 1.054 passengers and crew.

 
Around
12 AM many passengers heard terrible noises from the cargo deck. Some passengers were in the restaurants and most of the young couples and teens were in the disco, but the main part of the families were already asleep.
